Big Shots Film Lecture with Steve Audette
Steve will talk about the creative and practical process of editing a documentary, how to work with a producer to develop a story arc and how to translate the producers' ideas into a fully realized story. Steve will cover the use of different types of visual systems and sound design to augment story telling. He will also discuss use of graphics, music, and little known master level features of Avid.
Steve Audette has been making documentaries for nearly 20 years. After a 15 year run with the PBS public affairs series FRONTLINE, Steve is currently working as Senior Editor for another PBS series, NOVA. His first program for the series won The American Association for the Advancement of Science's major journalism award. With over 40 production credits, Steve's work has contributed to many Emmy Award-winning documentaries, as well as Peabody and DuPont Columbia Award-winning programs. In 2008 Steve was nominated for an Eddie Award from American Cinema Editors (A.C.E.), in the category of Best Documentary Editor on FRONTLINE: BUSH'S WAR; which went on to win the News and Documentary Emmy that fall.

CDIA Hosts Stonehenge Mass Audition - Washington DC Campus
CDIA will be hosting Stonehenge, the regional one-day mass audition,
which returns Sunday, March 28th. All actor spaces are full. Filmmakers must pre-register at:
http://www.teamjabberwocky.com/stonehenge.html
But wait, what is a "mass audition" you ask? It's like speed dating
for actors. For you, think of it as speed casting.
If you're a film director, producer, casting director--or anyone who
needs talent in front of the camera--this event can help you know
who's out there, who's new, and who to call in.
Perhaps you're about to shoot a short--maybe it's for the 48 Hour Film
Project--or you need to cast a training video or thesis film. A day at
Stonehenge means you will see about 120 actors of all types deliver a
monologue which we project on a screen. You instantly see how they
look on film and how natural they are. Plus, at the end of the day you
have a stack of headshots and resumes of people. Now when you arrange
auditions for your project, you have an edge.
Every single filmmaker we've asked has found actors they used or
planned to use at Stonehenge. In fact, since 2005, filmmakers have
told us of over 500 roles in over 100 projects that they cast thanks
to actors first seen at Stonehenge.
Current CDIA students can attend free with ID. Other filmmakers can
attend for as little as $40, but registration for both closes on 3/24.
